Hello, this is Mindy Tonovan with your 5 o'clock new update. In what is being described as one of the most deadly mishaps in Widowmaker history, the blunder of a single USCM scientist caused a plague of giant, mutant rats to swarm throughout the entire ship. These creatures wrecked a path of death and destruction that started in the lower decks and quickly worked its way to the top. The reported casualties are said to be in the hundreds, with nearly twice that in wounded.
Several researchers say that this horrible accident could have been averted if the majority of the Marines originally stationed on the Widowmaker had not been currently assigned to planetary duty. Marine Commander Huges had this to say:

"We at the Marines regret the tragic loss off life aboard the Widowmaker and send our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. It was a situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Widowmaker's been a fairly peaceful ship until now. How were we to know that something like this would happen in our absence?"

The Commander went on to say that a larger detachment of Marines would be left to guard the Widowmaker in the future and that security around the labs would be doubled to hopefully prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
